19th Century German Oil on Canvas Painting of Burg Eltz in Original Gilt Frame
19th Century German Oil on Canvas Painting of Burg Eltz in Original Gilt Frame
An original 19th Century German oil painting on canvas depicting Burg Eltz or Eltz Castle in Germany. The castle still stands and can be toured to this day. It has been held by the same German family for 400 years. The castle stands prominently among the mountains in the center of the work with its chimneys and smoke emanating and with birds circling around. A man and woman stand along the path walking up to the castle. In the foreground is an outline of a hunter with his rifle. The painting is housed in its original antique gilt frame with art nouveau or in Germany, jugendstil style, with draped leaves over each of the frame’s corners. A fantastic image of this wonderful German castle. The painting is apparently unsigned .
The dimensions of the painting image are approximately 20 1/4” x 17 1/4” and with frame measures approximately 26 3/4” x 23 3/4”.
The painting is in good condition overall. There are slight impressions from the stretcher bars on the canvas, but no damage to the painted surface. The corners of the frame have some damage, with one gesso leaf missing from the top left corner and a missing portion of the leaf in the lower left corner, with a touch up to the gold on the outside corner. This is not very noticeable, as you are focusing on the image itself and not the frame.
