Reserved - Max Gaisser, Oil on Panel Painting depicting Dutch Drinking Group "Hunter's Tale's"
This painting is by German artist, Max Gaisser (1857-1922). It is an oil on wooden panel. It measures 18” x 21” and has very fine detail. If I were to make a name for this painting, I would entitle it “Hunter’s Tales”. The hunter is sitting in the front with his red coat and his game, with additional game on the floor telling stories to the other gentlemen smoking pipes. The table on the side has a large pouring jug and a Passglass. The tall glass with lines was used in the 17th Century to pass beer around and each person would drink to the next line on the glass. The detail through the window and even the chipped Dutch Delft tiles in the fireplace show the artist’s amazing talent. The back has some information on the artist and says that he taught at the University of Munich.
The overall size with the frame is 29 1/2” x 33 1/4”. I paid a restorer to clean the painting when I purchased it. The frame also had some damage and the restorer repaired that as well. It looks beautiful.
