Antique Wheel-Cut Engraved and Gilt Decorated Glass Perfume Bottle
Antique Wheel-Cut Engraved and Gilt Decorated Glass Perfume Bottle
This listing is for a small antique wheel-cut engraved and gilt decorated glass perfume bottle possibly from Silesia, or northwestern Bohemia, ca. 1800’s. The mouth-blown bottle measures 3 7/8” (9.8 cm) tall w/stopper, 3 5/16” (8.4 cm) tall w/o stopper, 1 3/4” (4.5 cm) in diameter and is fitted with a glass hand-crafted stopper. The pontil break on the base has been polished smooth. The bottle features wheel cut diagonal lines throughout most of which are highlighted with gold, rudimentary foliage in gold, and flower blossoms in yellow enamel having dark brown highlights. The wraparound gold decoration and band on the shoulder of the bottle exhibit minor wear. The neck of the bottle bears two etched, parallel, wraparound bands. Included is a stopper that moves freely. The overall condition of the bottle is good, while the ball of the stopper exhibits a factory flaw that has been polished. A residue of unknown origin is present at the bottom of the bottle’s interior.
