$3,995.00

An oil on canvas painting by English artist, William Cosens Way (1833-1905), signed and dated 1886, depicting an Orientalist scene of a Middle-Eastern Town Square. A triangular view of two stone buildings converging in the center with a narrow passage and light coming through is depicted. At the top center of the painting appears to be a citadel and mosque. In the lower portion of the painting are merchants and travelers with horses. A flock of birds seems to be taking flight from the ground as the viewer watches showing action in the painting as if it is alive.

The painting measures 30” x 25” and with the gilt frame measures approximately 35 1/2” x 30 1/2”. There top portion in the sky shows a stretcher mark from the canvas resting on the wood stretcher. There is some old retouch, but the canvas is not lined. The painting displays well and is ready to hang.
