Ferdinand Roybet, Oil on Panel, "Off Duty"

An oil on panel painting by French artist, Ferdinand Roybet (1840-1920), entitled “Off Duty” by the nameplate on frame. The painting depicts a cavalier or royal soldier in an interior at full length, holding a horn in his right hand, his left hand on his hip in a stance of strength. To his left (our right) stands a Siegburg Schnelle (a type of stein from the 16th/17th Century) and an adjacent wine glass.

The painting measures 24 7/16” x 16 15/16” and overall with the Louis XV style pierced and gilt frame measures 29 3/4” x 23 1/4”. The painting is in wonderful condition and is ready to hang. There is a label on the back from Frederick Thom Gallery, Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
