Composite Crusader Style Suit of Armor

$34,995.00

One of our favorite pieces ,this suit of armor is a composite, meaning it has some genuine armor components of 16th Century or earlier.  The gorget (armor around the neck and collar)  as well as the first few shoulder lames on each side are genuine pieces of armor, authenticated by an expert.  The remaining shoulder lames are quality replacements, making them nearly indiscernible from the originals.  The helmet, or Great Helm was made by Ernst Schmidt, Munich, Germany, circa 1910, and as pictured in the book "Arms - Armor From the Atelier of Ernst Schmidt - Munich", plate 7, #76.  The helmet was De-asseciioned from the John Woodman Higgins Armory in Worcester, MA upon it's closing in 2013, and bears the the museum mark on the inside of the helmet "JWHA #1049". It was displayed at John Woodman Higgins Armory and was loaned to other museums.  There is a contemporary 4 in 1 pattern chainmail coif under the helm.  The well formed gorget is attached to the pauldrons with Almain rivets making a one piece assembly.  An unidentified mark in the form of a cross in a shield is on the lower lame on both sides.  There is a 4 in 1 pattern chainmail hauberk underneath the white cloth tabard with a sewn on red Maltese cross.  There are very well constructed Gothic style mitten gauntlets with pierced heart decoration, a similar pair, made in Landshut c 1490 is now in the Royal Armouries, HM Tower of London.  The contemporary Almain rivet cuisses are riveted to the greaves which have sabatons with a red leather belt, a brown leather belt from which hangs a unique trident main gauche with braided wire grip.  The crusader is holding a modern hand and a half sword.  The armor is on a form with mannequin hands and arms.  It stands on a wooden base with applied decorative molding, 7 feet tall with base.  Condition: Very good overall. The gorget is good with scattered minor pitting, some cracks and replaced lames.  The chainmail is very good.  The main gauche and sword have an artificial patina.  The cuisses, greaves, and sabatons are very good.  This item Ships FREE via freight service.  Please see full terms and conditions and shipping information before purchase.
