Pair of Hand Painted Porcelain Lidded Urns Depicting Cavaliers Signed Pradeaux
Pair of Hand Painted Porcelain Lidded Urns Depicting Cavaliers Signed Pradeaux
This is a pair of lidded porcelain bolted urns which are hand-painted depicting cavaliers with swords. Each painting is after Ernest Meissonier and bears the inscription “Suget de Meissonier” and the artist own signature “Pradeaux”. These are beautiful pieces of artwork which are hand-painted with numerous gilt details and gilt handles with eagle heads. The lids appear to have been cold-painted and may have been a later addition. These date circa 1880.
The urns measure 19” tall, approximately 9 1/2” wide across the handles at the widest point and approximately 6” deep. One of the urns has had a handle break and one lid was broken into multiple pieces and was professionally restored by a ceramic artist, and is nearly invisible.
