You may have noticed our logo on the main title page seems to be an image of a stained glass window. That's exactly what it is. This contemporary custom designed, and custom made stained glass window was created to match the carved panel from a lovely French Renaissance Revival Walnut server, circa 1900. The main panel features a knight on a horse with his valet, with his castle just over the hills in the background. This was such a picturesque image, that I decided to have a large 6' tall stained glass window made for my entry foyer with the same image. The artist and glass window designer did a fantastic job on the window, which just sparkles in the morning sunshine. Light enters the window and sends down colorful rays which dance playfully on the marble floor, foyer table top, sword, and knight in the foyer.

Design is about bringing together the old and the new. A wonderful antique piece with a modern window in an ode to the old world style.

What is a Revival? One definition could be bringing back something once great and popular. In furniture design there have been many great styles, but furniture makers often revisited the past by once again making furniture in the old style.

The Gothic period was generally from the 13th to 15th centuries. Furniture made during this period for common use was very basic, but that made for nobility tended to embrace religion with cathedral arches, crosses, flying buttresses and gargoyles.

The Renaissance is generally accepted to be from the 16th to early 17th centuries and embodied grand style, wonderful carving of floral elements, acanthus leaves, and figures of people, or faces in the work.

Finding furniture from these periods in any kind of condition today, is nearly impossible, at least not at a reasonable price. The good news is that furniture makers revisited both of these periods several times, and most recently in the late 1800's (19th Century). There are many wonderful pieces out there that embody both of these styles that exhibit true craftsmanship and style.
