Willem de Heusch and Jan van Huchtenburgh, Landscape with Cavalier and Travelers
Willem de Heusch and Jan van Huchtenburgh, Landscape with Cavalier and Travelers
An oil on panel painting by landscape artist Willem de Heusch (1625-1692) and figures by Jan van Huchtenburgh (1647-1733) depicting a cavalier on horseback with his dog and other travelers amidst an Italianate landscape with castle in the distance. This small painting offers a beautiful Italian style landscape with mountains and tall trees, a distant castle and a lake. The cavalier rider in red is on a galloping horse with a dog running beside. Ahead of him is another trailer or peasant walking alongside another horse. This collaboration between the two artists on such a small panel is quite interesting. The painting appears in the records of the Images Lite from the RKD (Netherlands Institute for Art Research) - see last photo.
