Anglo-Dutch School, 17th Century, Oil on Canvas laid to Board, Portrait of a Man in Orange Sash
An oil on canvas painting, laid to board depicting a man wearing an orange sash with fringe within a feigned oval. The painting may be Enlish or Dutch in origin. An orange sash is typically representative of the Dutch House of Orange. He is depicted with a flat collar and tassels, which is the style that began in the 1630's, favored over the ruff, which allowed men to wear their hair in longer fashion as depicted in this portrait.
The painting is from the collection of Oleg Cassini, the famous fashion designer, and was sold at auction of his estate by Doyle New York. The painting appears to have had significant old damage in the face and upper right background as well as several campaigns of restoration. The old tears and in-painting are visible as can be seen from the photos, but still presents well as a 17th Century Old Master painting. It is presented in a an aged bronze finish frame and ready to hang. The painting image measures 27" x 22" and overall with frame measures 37 1/4" x 31 3/4".
