Oil on Panel of Elegant Company, Manner of Pieter Jansz Quast, dated 1633
An oil on panel painting depicting an elegant company seated around a room, with a gentleman with large hat and feather looking towards a well-dressed lady turning toward him, and another gentleman with his hand on his chin, listening intently. Another woman sits at the table covered in a green tablecloth. There is a pewter pitcher on the tiled floor. A lute hangs on the wall behind the gentleman. The painting bears a faint remnant of a monogram and the date of 1633.
The image measures 11.4” x 15” and is presented in an antique Dutch style ripple frame with faux tortoise shell inlay measuring approximately 19 1/2” x 22 1/4”. There is a horizontal crack near the center of the painting which has been filled and touched up so that it is nearly invisible. The painting has been recently fully conserved by Baumgartner Fine Art Restoration in Chicago and it is now in lovely condition and ready to hang.
