19th C French Renaissance Revival Carved Walnut Savonarola Chair
19th C French Renaissance Revival Carved Walnut Savonarola Chair
This 19th Century French Renaissance Revival Carved Walnut Savonarola Chair has a curule form style, extremely similar to that in the carving of our Early 20th Century Spanish Bookcase, so much so that we display it with the bookcase. It features grotesque faces carved at the center of the stretcher and at the top of each of the uprights along with foliate carving across the back as shown in the photos. It is extremely old and has a number of old repairs including a cracked leg and broken front apron. It has been reinforced with iron or metal bars under the curved section on both front and back and glue. It is French Walnut and as typical with these pieces shows extensive worm holes (not active). This chair is a lovely example of the style and would be suggested for display only, not usage. Dimensions 33.25" H x 21.5" W x 16" D. Free Shipping on this item in the 48 contiguous United States.
