Bambocci inspired 19th Century Walnut Humidor/Liquor Cabinet on Stand
Bambocci inspired 19th Century Walnut Humidor/Liquor Cabinet on Stand
A wonderfully hand-carved 19th Century humidor and liquor cabinet on stand, inspired by the famous stipo a bambocci, which was an Italian Renaissance fall-front writing desk made in the Northern parts of Italy in the 16th and 17th centuries. This outstanding quality cabinet is modeled after the famed desk, but instead of small drawers, this cabinet has two large doors which open to reveal a marble lined section for liquor; the cool marble would help keep the liquor cool, and a tin-lined section with small holes and a small drawer for a sponge to keep water that would keep cigars moist.
The cabinet comes in three sections, the top crown, the middle section lined with marble and tin, and the stand with two drawers for smoking paraphernalia.
For comparison, the last two photos feature the top half of a stipo a bambocci which recently sold in auction for over $12,000.
The interior of the cabinet has sustained some damage over the years. The bottom piece of Carrera marble has a crack and missing corner piece. The tin shelf on the humidor side has been bent, and positioned back in place. The cabinet is fully functional and could be used as-is, or restored to it's original interior condition. The key is present to lock the cabinet, but the lock mechanism does not fully engage the catch. There is one pull missing from the top right drawer section, but this is not distracting.
