A beautifully detailed oil painting on canvas by German artist Curt Bruckner, entitled “The Stamp Collector”. This genre scene painting depicts the collector in his element, seated at his desk in his well-appointed study, examining his stamps. The room is so detailed that the artist has painted miniature paintings on the wall behind the subject, one a floral still life, one is a monastery scene with monks in a courtyard, and an antique etching, where the artist has playfully included his signature at the bottom, “C Bruckner pinx ‘57”. Pinx means “he painted” and ‘57 would be the year, 1957. Also in the room is a large floor globe in the front left corner, a table with cup of coffee or tea, his clock on the bureau and many other detailed elements.

Curt Bruckner is also knows as Curt Echtermeyer. He was born in 1896 in Valparaisso, Chile, but the family moved to Germany and he was raised there. An extensive biography of the artist is available online. Under the name Curt Echtermeyer, he painted surrealist scenes of modern life, but under Curt Bruckner he painted detailed genre scenes of men in various professions or hobbies within their inner sanctum enjoying their surroundings. Echtermeyer was involved in an accident and died in 1971.

The painting image measures 14.25” x 16.25” and the frame overall measures 19 1/2” x 21 1/2”. The painting is in excellent condition with no sign of damage or in-painting. The frame has had minor repair to one edge element.
