Casper Mine Oil on Board of Austrian Man - Great Detail

$349.00

This is an oil painting on Masonite in a gilt frame, signed upper right by artist Casper Mine (1905-) depicting an Austrian man, possibly a hunter or Jaeger, in a red coat, white shirt, and cap with a feather. The painting is of fine quality and shows great detail in the sitter’s face.

The artist was born in 1905 in France. According to the AskArt database, this artist has had 33 works in auctions, with the highest price achieved of $2,092. His paintings typically are small portraits of male characters including monks, cardinals, rabbis, and German or Austrian men such as woodsmen, hunters, and drinkers.

The painting site area measures approximately 11 1/4” x 8 1/4” and with the frame, approximately 17” x 14”. The painting is in overall good condition, but there is an area to the lower left where the color is faded slightly with craquelure, which may be from heat exposure. This is minor, but I wanted to clearly call this out as a condition issue. The frame has had minor touch-up. The panting is signed in the upper right corner, but the signature is illegible. This painting is likely from the 1930’s era based on the style, composition, and medium, but the exact date is unknown.
