Frank Moss Bennett Oil on Canvas Laid to Board "A Warm Welcome"
This painting by Frank Moss Bennett is entitled “A Warm Welcome”, is also titled on the frame. It is signed by the artist and dated 1924. This one has a full detailed background with one man seated by the fire to get warm with his tankard on the floor. The man on the left pours a fresh tankard of ale for the man in the center who has apparently just come in from out of the snow as there is fresh snow on his jacket. It was a custom to warm the ale in those days, and this is most likely warmed. There is a bronze mortar and pestle above the fireplace and other nice detail in the painting, with clearly defined brushstrokes. This one is an oil on canvas that has been laid to a board. The site area of the painting is approximately 15 1/4” x 19 14” and overall with the gilt frame measures 22 3/8” x 28 3/8”. There are numerous cracks to the frame but this is simply from age and no pieces seem to be broken off or missing.
