A portrait of Mrs. Margaret Paget Hext, by the famous English artist, Frank Moss Bennett (1874-1953), signed and dated 1917. Mrs. Hext lived from 1858-1945. She was married to Francis John Hext, who passed away in 1913 and had one child, Major Francis John Hext, who was awarded an honor for conspicuous gallantry and determination when forward observer with the infantry on 25th September 1915. He died May 9, 1918. The portrait shows Mrs. Hext in an elegant gown with a diamond broach and pearl earrings, sitting adjacent to a table with African violets.

The painting measures 36” x 28” and overall with the gilt frame measures 44 1/2” x 36 1/4”. The painting is missing a few keys in the back and the canvas is somewhat loose, and needs to be keyed out. There is a small abrasion upper right center, which can be easily touched up and some abrasions in the lower corners due to frame rubbing. The frame has has old cracks and some slight separation in the corners, and has had some repairs on the right and bottom perimeter and has been repainted, but presents well and perfectly frames the portrait.
