19th Century French Carved Oak Trunk with Lion, King & Queen
19th Century French Carved Oak Trunk with Lion, King & Queen
French carved oak trunk, late 19th century. This finely hand-carved trunk has a rich medium brown patina and features a lion with a coat of arms in the center, flanked on either side by a king and queen. The sides of the trunk also are carved with a king on one side and queen on the other. This is very old, and shows signs of wear as would be typical from age and use. There are cracks to the wood through the front left panel and on the right side of the trunk as well as minor losses to the carving. There is a small chip on the king's crown on the right side of the trunk. The carved molding along the bottom right shows slight warping due to age. This is a great piece, perhaps used at one time as a dowry or marriage chest. Please call or email for additional photos or further information. Dimensions 39.25" L x 18.5" D x 25" H.
