German Salt-Glazed Figural Candlestick, Woman with Harvest Wreath

$329.00

A wonderful large German salt-glazed figural candlestick depicting a woman wearing a crown and holding a harvest wreath. The back of this candlestick has a handle shaped like on elf the woman’s hair braids to carry the candle while it is burning. The candlestick is late 19th Century and mold #365 made by Reinhold Hanke, a manufacturer of German beer steins and other salt-glazed German stoneware. The last photo shows the image from the original 19th Century manufacturer catalog. The base of the candlestick is decorated in the Palissy style with frogs, salamanders, snakes, etc. Above this is a series of small faces in the Gothic taste. This is a very unusual item, and does not appear to be one of a pair, as there does not seem to be a companion piece in the catalog.

The candlestick measures 18” tall. There is an old small chip along the top rim. There also appears to be some in-painting near the area under the flange where it is connected to the lower portion of the body., probably with a screw or bolt.

This item includes FREE Shipping in the United States, all other areas would incur additional shipping costs.
