An oil on canvas painting by English artist, James Vivien de Fleury (c.1847-c.1891) entitled “Castles on the Rhein”. The painting depicts a river scene with a castle with turret near the river adjacent to a stone bridge and a row of houses on the left. There are two boats on the river with workers. High above the scene, on the mountain is another large, stone castle fortress with more mountains in the distance, a true breathtaking scene. In the foreground, a man and woman are seated on the shore. The painting is signed in the lower right corner and dated 1859.

The painting measures 19” x 38” and overall with the frame measures 25 1/2” x 37 1/4”, and is in excellent condition along with the gilt frame. The painting has a beautiful high gloss finish that makes it look like a glassy surface, giving the entire painting a dreamlike feel.
