This landscape oil on canvas painting depicts a river with bridge and a town with a figure on a path. The painting is by English artist Edmund Johann Niemann (1813-1876), and this painting is signed and dated in the lower left corner, 1876, the last year of the artist’s life. This may depict Richmond, of which the artist painted many images.

The painting image measures 22” x 38” and overall with the frame measures 32.5” x 48.5”. There is some inpainting in the top center section, and there are stretcher marks that can be seen on the canvas. The Gilt English cove frame has a number of repairs, but overall looks quite good. The back of the stretcher has a mark for Christie’s Auction from a previous sale, which is great provenance for the work.
