Large Oil on Canvas Still Life with Fruit and Vessels by Jeno Friedlinger
Large Oil on Canvas Still Life with Fruit and Vessels by Jeno Friedlinger
This large still life painting by Hungarian artist Jeno (John) Friedlinger is incredibly realistic, centered with a silver bowl with rocaille scrolls handles overflowing with apples, peaches, pears and grapes. To the left is a silver pokal drinking vessel, and to the right a large tankard which appears to be bronze and pottery, a pewter mounted drinking glass and a very large serving ewer. There are more apples, peaches and grapes over the surface of the table cloth. The arrangement is centered within a red and gold curtains with a blue background and central medallion. This is a truly spectacular still life, perfect for a dining room or kitchen. The painting is signed lower left “Friedlinger J” which is the standard signature for this artist. The painting dates from the early to mid-20th Century, probably 1950’s, but possibly earlier. The artist is known primarily for his still life scenes of fruit and vessels in ornate surroundings.
This painting has hung in my personal dining room for about 8 years, and always gets compliments from guests.
The painting measures 24” x 36” and the overall size with the frame measures approximately 43 1/2” x 31 1/2”. The frame is likely mid 20th Century and is a white-washed gold look. There is an old paper label on the back for Bobbitt’s Artistic Picture Framing in Omaha, Nebraska, which is prior to the 5 digit zip code.
