Large Oil Painting on Canvas after Rafael "Jeanne d' Aragon" by Amal Dagher
Large Oil Painting on Canvas after Rafael "Jeanne d' Aragon" by Amal Dagher
This is a wonderful vintage copy of Rafael's painting, previously thought to be Jeanne d' Aragon (Joanna of Aragon), later determined to be Dona Isabel de Requesens, Vice-Queen of Naples. The painting depicts Dona Isabel in a red or maroon outfit and hat appointed with Renaissance details, and seated next to an arched window with landscape beyond. The original painting, commissioned in 1518 resides at the Louvre, Paris, France. While the face of the original is believed to have been painted by Rafael, the other portions of the painting are believed to have been painted by Giulio Romano, one of Rafael's students.
This is a copy of the painting, believed to have been created in the 1980's, signed and fully documented both on the front and back by the artist Amal Dagher, who was authorized by the Louvre to work on and create copies of famous works. The artist information can still be found on the internet site today, as he has been creating copies of famous paintings for 40 years, now working with his son as well.
The painting is in excellent condition and is very large, with the site area measuring approximately 39 1/2" x 27 3/4" and mounted in a very large and ornate gilt frame measuring 47 1/2" x 39". While not an antique painting, this was rendered by a very skilled hand, and shows great depth and character of the woman.
