A very nice English landscape oil on canvas painting laid on Masonite by Sir George Frederick Hodson (1806-1888) depicting figures in the foreground with a sea and castle up high on a cliff, and opening to a cave or passage through the rock. The painting is in a period gilt gessoed frame. The painting is signed G.F. Hodson and dated, what appears to be 1830.

The painting measures 16.5” x 22.5” and the overall measurements including the frame are 24.5” x 30”. The painting appears to be in very good condition, but it laid to masonite and not stretched. The frame has had several repairs, but is in overall good condition and displays well.
