Pair of 19th Century Renaissance Revival Carved Armchairs with Lions an Crown Crest
Fine pair of Renaissance Revival armchairs with detailed carving of armorial bearing with shield surmounted by a crown and flanked by rampant lions. The shield features a star over a pair of balance scales over a carved anchor. Carved barley twist supports flank either side of the back and also support the armrests and serve as legs of the chairs. Be sure to look closely at the detailed carving of the crest, these are simply beautiful and would be the envy of any antique collector.
The chairs are very sturdy and appear to have been refinished and reupholstered in a brown velvet late in the 20th Century. Both the backs and seats are well-padded. These are beautiful antique chairs but are solid and sturdy enough for regular use. Both backs appear to have been professionally repaired at some point in their past history The dimensions are approximately 51” High x 27” Wide and 25” Deep.
