Portrait of a knight in armor, oil on board, attributed to English artist William Etty (1787-1849) is a dashing representation of a knight with large mustache, lace collar and armor set against a red backdrop, in the artist’s style of sweeping brushstrokes, and impressionistic style. The painting comes in what appears to be its original antique frame.
William Etty is known primarily for painting nudes, and was even criticized by JMW Turner at one point in his career. He was a controversial artist in his time and even so today. His paintings according to the AskArt Database have sold regularly with the highest price work selling for $62,220. Etty seldom signed his paintings, but this work has told old labels on the back attributing to the artist. In comparing this painting to other portraits, the style is similar in the brushstrokes, composition and background.

Condition: there are a few blemishes and slight paint losses on the front lower left, and the frame has a few small repairs and paint re-touches, but otherwise it is in good condition and ready to hang and display.
