Rosenborg Castle Interior Scene Oil on Canvas by Christian Tilemann-Petersen 1912
Rosenborg Castle Interior Scene Oil on Canvas by Christian Tilemann-Petersen 1912
A nicely detailed interior scene or Rosenborg Castle by Danish artist, Christian Tilemann-Petersen (1874-1926), this scene shows a dining area with throne chair, Renaissance style table with fringed tablecloth, cabinet with a nautilus cup and other glass vessels, and a large portrait of a man in armor, possibly Christian IV, who built Rosenborg Castle in the 17th Century. The castle is located in Copenhagen, Denmark and was built starting in 1606. A leaded pane window on the left side of the painting brings light into the room and really shows the fall of the light on the room’s floor, beamed ceiling and furniture inside. There is a silver tankard on the table just at the edge of the painting, gleaming in the light. The painting is signed in the lower right hand corner and dated 1912. The artist’s record high sale was an interior scene sold at Sotheby’s in 2006 for $31,000.
The painting is in very good condition, with only slight frame rubbing on the right side of the canvas. The image size of the painting is 24” x 20” and the overall size including the frame is 28 1/4” x 23 3/4”.
