An oil on canvas painting by English artist, Robert Alexander Hillingford (1828-1904) “News from the Front Lines” depicting a group of French or Spanish soldiers arriving into a town to share the news of war with the local townfolk. One soldier is on horseback while others are passing news directly to the town leaders. A donkey and peasant man are in the front foreground. On the right is another soldier seated on a bench, his helmet and his sword beside him, adjacent to two priests sharing the news. In the window of the building above is a beautiful woman looking out the window to hear the news. The painting is signed in the lower right corner, R. Hillingford.

The painting measures 18” x 24” and overall with the gilt frame measures 24 1/2” x 30 1/2” and is in very good condition with minor craquelure. The frame is also in very good, original condition. Provenance: Frederick W. Thom Gallery, Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
